A rugged, rather smelly and often bearded defender who could time tackles to
perfection, almost as many times as he could deftly flick an attackers
ankle
when bearing down on goal.
Cursed by lack of concentration, McDee could play a fantastic game
before
quickly losing interest in the last half-hour, and become a genuine
liability. Still, a fine distributor of the ball, and for his slender
frame
he possessed a rocket of a shot. Played his best stuff alongside Mark
Duffy, enjoying a partnership which bordered on telepathy, respect, and
even
unconditional love.
PITZ DEBUT:
1997.
LAST APPEARANCE:
Summer 2001.
PITZ HIGHLIGHT:
One glorious summer's evening (2000) on Park 6, the
"F*ckyezall Five", as they were to become known, blasted their way to
possibly the biggest ever winning margin on a Friday - magnificent
football
by all 5 (McShane, McDonald, Campbell, Doyle and someone else whose name
escapes me), culminating in the coup de grace, a slick 4-man move, the
ball
layed back by Campbell on the left, and in thundered McDee out of
nowhere to
despatch a glorious first time effort, lashing the ball into the top
corner
with a genuine air on nonchelance, not seen since Brazil's World Cup
triumph
in 1970.
WHERE IS HE NOW?
McDee left RSA in the early summer of 2001 to work at
RSA
headquarters in Horsham, Surrey. Still makes the odd visit to his
hometown,
and makes the odd guest appearance at the Friday 5's. The years,
however,
have not been kind, and Stuart now resembles a post-seventies George
Best, a
shambling, shuffling, shadow of his former self, who looks a bit like
Stig
of the Dump. Still, suppose that's what happens when you move to the
big
smoke....
